This course explores the cultural and religious underpinnings of contemporary attitudes and practices concerning the environment. Both historical and contemporary understandings of nature as expressed in various religious traditions. The course explores the diverse ethical responses to environmental problems including contemporary philosophical and religious beliefs regarding nature.

This course explores the dynamics of culture in social systems, with the perspective of valuing differences in society and sociocultural forces impinging on culture from the ecological perspective.
